There are a few ornamental grasses that are rarely damaged by deer. Japanese Sedge, also known as Carex, is one of them. This ornamental grass will grow to 12-18 inches in height. It does well in both partial and full shade. The plant itself is variegated and it is grown for its foliage color, since it does not bloom. It requires constantly moist soil and should not dry out between waterings.
